Heartland Motorsports Park

Topeka, Kansas

Constructed in 1989, Heartland Motorsports Park became the first significant road course built in the U.S. in 20 years. The Grand Prix course, which GRIDLIFE will use at the finals weekend, consists of 14 turns and 2.5 miles in length. The course is fast, flowing, and has some elevation change despite what drivers expect when they arrive. Several drivers have said that Heartland Park is “the best time attack track in the country” because of its speed and twisting track layout. The facility also features a drag strip (which will be in use Saturday night at GRIDLIFE finals) an off road course, a skid pad, and a clay oval. The course was repaved in the fall of 2016.

The Grand Prix course uses the faster turn 1-2 section (T1 and T2a/T2b) and the faster turn 8-9 section.

Track Limits: Vehicles must remain on the racing surface. The racing surface is defined as the asphalt area between the white lines. Heartland Park does not feature lots of paved runoff. The runoff and areas off track are encouraged to be used for accident avoidance, but may NOT be used to gain an advantage or make a pass. Cars that exceed track limits or end up in the grass must rejoin the racing circuit PARALLEL to the direction of travel of the course and must yield to cars on track.

Full Course Yellow Reminders: When double yellow flags are waved, begin to slow to 60-70% of race pace and follow the car in front, leaving a safe distance to react in front. The safety car will be deployed. SAFETY CAR LIGHTS ON = FOLLOW SAFETY CAR - this INCLUDES following the safety car when it enters pit lane. The ONLY time you will NOT follow the safety car is when the lights on top of the safety car are turned off. In this case, remain at safety car speed in line until the green flag is waved.

Safe Havens: If your vehicle has a major mechanical problem or is leaking fluid, look for safe havens - which are breaks in the armco or tire barriers. Pull to a safe haven to the INSIDE of a corner within view of a corner station, if possible.

Important Driver Notes: ALL DRIVERS

Turn 8/9 CAUTION: There are anti-cut sausage curbs that lie perpendicular to the racing surface just beside the outer edge of the blue/white curbing. They are obscured by grass. Your vehicle may suffer significant damage if you cut the corner in these areas.
